rhivolution: Uhura from Star Trek TOS, leaning over and laughing (oh hell yes: Uhura (TOS))
Can we talk about how every time I see The River mentioned, I think it's based on the (amazing) Springsteen song/album?

Because that would seriously make a really interesting drama, about the 70s rural US and lost dreams and teen pregnancy and unions and economic issues. TOPICAL. I would watch the fuck out of that show.

REVERSE I SURRENDER MEME

- YOU: comment to this post with a TV show concept. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...) Be as detailed as you like.
- I: will create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them, and add in any actor photos, character bios and show synopsis that I like.

Please give me some ideas? I'm in the mood. No more this round, apologies.
rhivolution: Karen Gillian dressed as Amy Pond faces off against a TV camera (me versus the camera: Karen Gillan)
Saw the DW Christmas episode. Not bored, but not overly impressed, either. I am no fun. (spoilers) )

We also watched the first Sherlock, which is ACE and I need to watch the rest. There will eventually be thinky thoughts about disability (and degrees of disability, both physical and psychological). Also the fact that in that ep, much of Sherlock as written is just Sociopathic Eleventh Doctor, thank you Moffat.

Also, speaking of Steve-o, trailer spoilers that are not about River Song. )
rhivolution: Abed from Community with his camcorder (pop culture/film = OTP: Abed Nadir)
Today's awkward: Sitting down and watching this week's Community with your British SO who has absolutely no understanding of network-run US TV Christmas specials ca. 1992. I thought it was absolutely fucking hilarious. He didn't get it. Any of it. So here I am laughing my head off and he's sitting there looking confused for very good reasons.

Aawwwwwkward.

I offered to show him Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer first, but he declined. To be fair, I really don't know how Rudolph would play for someone first seeing it in their thirties...my guess is badly.

I have some mental health depiction concerns about the Community ep, and a lifted eyebrow at the 'Secular Christmas Is For Everyone' message, but not enough to be ragey about right now.

By the by, one cannot get ready-made non-alcoholic eggnog over here. Apparently you can get imported stuff in tins from the US, but I am not drinking TINNED nog, man, at that price. And it's out of stock anyway. I may just make my own at that rate, or whip something up that's a combination of Advocaat and custard.
rhivolution: Ace is pensive and/or upset (say your life is on fire: Ace)
Per [livejournal.com profile] taraljc, Rubicon has been cancelled. Yes, in light of renewing The Walking Dead after two.episodes.

Sigh. Yes, I know, #firstworldproblem, niche programme, but I enjoyed that show. It was the US answer to early Spooks*--thoughtful, dangerous, intelligence agency drama, and a slow burner.

...which was probably why they tossed it. The US viewing public has no patience for slow burners.** Their loss.

* Should that remake happen, and I have no idea how it would be done (as the FBI is incredibly different culturally, and we have also had about ten million FBI shows), I will cry.
** Please tell me we are grown-up enough to know that I don't necessarily mean You Specifically when I say 'the US viewing public'. There IS a dominant sociocultural construct of television viewers, both perceived and actual, in every country, though.
