We are safely in Milwaukee now. Safely includes living through an earthquake that everyone was convinced was a toddler kicking the chairs in Newark Liberty terminal. Except that there was no toddler and the kicking didn't stop, and the sign was rattling. I know, this is ridic to those of you from the Pacific Rim, but still.

Anyway, we're both very tired, but I'll be up for a good couple hours yet just for the sake of timezone adjustment, which means we'll have been awake for nearly 24 hours.

Bummed that I can't do Tag Someone New at TR, but I just don't have the time/energy on this whistlestop tour.

Hallo thar!

I ended up, through not much effort of my own, in human resources, back in Wisconsin, for three or so years, saving up money for grad school. I then did my MA in film/tv production at Birmingham Uni in England, which was a great time. I got hitched in August '10 and moved to Glasgow permanently as I finished my dissertation, but found work a little less than three months ago.

Work in human resources at a large UK telecom. (HR, yes, I just can't win.) That said, I appreciate being able to go to work each day, getting paid, and helping others get hired and paid and compensated properly. There are worse things to do and I'm part of a team of good people in a relatively supportive environment.

In the process, I've been reading and writing and cooking and breaking into vidding, as well as expanding my knitting skills and branching out somewhat into the intersections of social justice and fandom. I've also had some gender trouble and found that I'm really interested in online community building as it relates to UK media. I hope to someday get back to doing something with that kind of work or with cultural history.

Oh, cool! I didn't know any of this. Neato. So you are, like, a real adult now: married and with a job and living abroad! Love it.

The gender stuff is tough sometimes, isn't it? Interesting always, but—not the easiest. I definitely hear you there. My partner has struggled with a lot of gender questions and so it's a familiar topic of conversation around here.
