DW-only

Been chewing on this for months now and I don't have a good answer anywhere either way:
Does having OCD make one neurodivergent?

Some people speculate that because it's an illness, it shouldn't. And I don't want to appropriate things.

But at the same time, I'd seriously hesitate to say that my thinking patterns are neurotypical. This cartoon by Jeph Jacques illuminates why; that's pretty much how my brain operates.

So where does it fit exactly? Despite not wanting the ritual and the pain that comes from egodystonic stuff, I don't think I'd want to rewire my brain too much.

I firmly believe that self-ID is self-ID, and for the same reason you outline - I sure as hell don't think in 'typical' patterns - I personally believe I'm not appropriating anything in IDing as ND.

(Also, you have me in love with Hannelore.)

What she said. In teasing apart the losable impairment from the imposed disability, it's important not to get too binary. We can both want to rid ourselves of some things and embrace others.

(Also, that's my intro to QC, and I see I've been missing something!)

My thinking patterns are definitely not neurotypical -- seeing as I have trouble parsing say, sarcasm, and absolutely no problem with garden-path sentences! -- but I have no idea whether this relates to OC(P)D or not. :/ sorry?
