rhivolution | (no subject)

In a (likely futile) attempt to use up my carryover annual leave* I've taken today and tomorrow off work. Today I've managed to go to the gym AND clean the fridge.

They don't really tell you that cleaning the fridge is hard, or maybe that's just me and OCD talking.

In further home maintenance/DIYness...what the hell does one do about loud pipes? Our toilet's been losing it, but usually only at night, for the last week or two--possibly air in the pipes. The sound is like a loud ongoing blatt, eases up when you turn on the sink, and all the recommendations I see online have said that the solution is to just turn on all the faucets in the flat and wait for it to stop. Thing is, it DOES stop pretty much straightaway after another faucet turns on.

I'm just faintly terrified that something's going to break under the strain and then we will be ridiculously screwed. Anyone have any ideas?

(Also: we've been watching Daria as it's now all on Netflix UK except for the two movies. so much win, though the fandom has me terrified and sticking to AO3 for fic, mostly. I really wish we'd had cable when I was of that age, it might have kept me from doing some stupid shit.)

* I don't know what to do with five weeks paid vacation, even if I'm entitled to it. DAMN IT AMERICA. Unfortunately, that then becomes MORE vacation the next year, gdi.

The Daria fandom isn't too bad! It's just...well, it's old, and that means you're going to have a lot of entrenched fanon/opinions that don't always make sense. And a different quality of fic. Outpost Daria is the place to look for fic, but it's very much a browsing experience, so check it out when you've got a lot of spare time.

(Personally, I kind of prefer the Outpost Daria fic to AO3 fic, lol. Daria/Trent is my OTP, while Daria/Jane really doesn't do it for me--"too incestuous" seems to happen to me way too often with femslash ships, sigh, but that's the thing--and AO3 definitely skews towards the latter. My guilty pleasure Daria fic is Diane Long's Daria Continuum. It's Daria/Trent and makes Daria into the woobiest woobie ~~and Monique into a murderous psychobitch~~ whose family just doesn't ~appreciate~ her. It's not great literature by any means, but it's one I can still enjoy the hell out of.)

All this to say that I am glad you're enjoying Daria! It's a fun time, and it's fun to watch it and see how my feelings about it change over time. (My favourite character as an adult is definitely Quinn, which was...not the case back in high school, lol. Man, thinking about this is reminding me that I should continue that Daria/Temeraire crossover I was writing this one time.)

(Also, I will happily take your extra paid vacation, oh my gosh. That sounds so miraculous.)

There ain't much on AO3, to be honest, save a couple of good stories written for Yuletide. Thanks for the siterec! and omg crossover.

I feel so BAD using my paid vacation. It's like 'who will do all the work I do' and then I realize I'm micromanaging the processes I own, which is bad.
