It's probably a bad sign that the first I'm writing about Doctor Who this season because I feel so strongly (and there have been some good bits, ngl) is to tell you that while I didn't hate this episode, I am apparently the only person on the planet who thought The Power of Three was a stilted, crappily written piece.

Mostly because there wasn't any consistency to the tone. Was this a slice of life episode? A touching uplifting story of humanity and their relationship with hope?* A madcap romp? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS, BECAUSE CHIBNALL SURE DON'T.

Also, what the fuck year is it supposed to be now?

And how can BBC Wales not borrow the appropriate BBC News font instead of just borrowing some Arial and thinking media anoraks like me won't notice?

There are a few highish points: Jemma Redgrave as the Brig's daughter, whose performance is good but limited by the cliched material she's given. An OTTly ridiculous but hilarious Brian Cox cameo no one in the US will understand. Amy being a freelance journalist. The wee scene on the Thames with the Doctor and Amy. There is limited fail.

But generally? I may say many things about Moffat, but at least he can write credible dialogue and pace an episode excitingly. Next week will be better. It will probably piss me off somehow, but at least it will be good television.

However, this is apparently the minority report, as most of the nation and people I know thought it was a brilliant wee episode. Not gonna gaslight, but in my opinion, I can't see it.

* I love the Tenth Doctor, ngl. But I seriously thought we were done with being sledgehammered by this theme for a while now that Eleven's firmly in, and I was very happy about that. I WAS WRONG.
