where the hell is Walter, that is what I want to know, Academy.

I know, I say this every year, but FUCK I am sick of the Oscars. And every year someone will ask me for my opinion because I'm the 'film person' they know.

I dislike awards ceremonies in general, tbh. They bore me to tears. I don't even like them when I've won something. They go on for way too long and accomplish nothing save self-aggrandizement and woe. I also really do not fucking care who is wearing whom or what or what anyone did with their hair, though I must say more power to Viola Davis.

This is probably because I fucking hate celebrity culture with the fire of a thousand suns. And my give-a-damn for fashion is next to nil.

But I dislike the Oscars (and the Emmys, to less extent) in particular because the screen is my thing, and it is rare that I'm happy with what is bestowed (thank fuck for The Hurt Locker is all I'm saying). Cause it is all the ridiculously dominant paradigm of Whatever Some White Western Guys Voted For with a side dish of Industry Politics and a glass of Touchy-Feely. Or perhaps you would like a fine Western Historical Turning Point with your meal, sir?

This is not to say don't have a good time, just that I am, once again, grumpy and bitter--I cannot divorce it from the problematic, is all.

Yup yup. When I was a young 'un, I remember whole-heartedly buying into the social construct that you MUST watch _____ Award Show* and then you MUST start subsequent conversations with people with "Did you watch ____ Award Show!?". But the things people wanted to gossip about over and over just...I didn't get it. Celebrity culture is so aggravating.

*(and of course _______ Award Show usually meant 'White Approved!Award Show'. Award shows for specific underrepresented groups were easily ignorable as 'niche'. Sigh.)
