I don't really know the situation, but I really don't get the whole srs bsns reaction to the Hugos this year? I didn't think the general White Old School Winning sitch was any bigger a deal this year than it is ANY year, but apparently the ante, she has been upped.

And so I am trying to figure out what is going on before I make any judgements (I do have an initial response, but I don't know if it's accurate), but I can't FIND anything save some arguing on Twitter.

If anyone has the spoons to update me or point me in the right direction, do let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can put together, it is literally just the arguing on twitter.

That makes the reaction...god, trying to be diplomatic here...interesting, in my book.

A friend and I were talking about this earlier because she linked me to a specific post and neither of us could figure out what was going on until we saw screencaps of the argument on twitter and... it apparently is only the argument on twitter? The only other thing that could have happened is that something occurred on a mailing list or locked community, which then would not be easily tracked. Otherwise, if something happened, it either took place in the comments somewhere or was deleted.

A somewhat overrated but popular author winning is a lot more AWFUL when it's a woman?

That's what I've gleaned, anyway.

I think there are a whole lot of people upset about a whole lot of different things, possibly. (All the people I know were slightly-but-not-any-way-wanting-action irritated that it went to Willis instead of NK Jemisin, who is also a woman, but I don't pretend to follow a variety of people or even a variety of SF fans...)

But this I cannot really pin down from the Twitter conversation!
