I've been processing, trying to figure out why I'm so...disconcerted by the whole Doctor Who thing. I mean, I'm good with the big picture, and the episode was very good, but I'm also a bit sick at heart. Part of it is that there's always a bit of a let-down with knowing the answer to a big question, but I think it's mainly because with where things stand at the moment, the humans get a massively raw deal.

And so I am finding it hard to glee because I am just WIBBLE.

Amy...was pregnant and didn't really know it, then when she DID, she was already in labour. She barely got a chance to bond with Melody/wee-River before they took her away, then Rory didn't get to be with ween at all because they replaced her with a Flesh baby which dissolved in Amy's arms. Oh, and now it turns out she and Rory have been running around with the adult version of her daughter who is totally shagging her best friend.

Are we are now supposed to be okay with this because the baby ends up being okay in the very long run? Insomuch as River is okay?

As for River, the Doctor either will get her back straightaway to have her stolen again eventually, or he won't get to her for a few years (see River's conversation with Rory in TIA), so if that's the case, she was basically Raised By Wolves. Then she's out on the streets of Cape Canaveral/Orlando/wherever, HOMELESS at age eight or whatever, and Our Time/Future Amy and Rory who know who she is won't get to see her again until then, at least.

And then what, happy families? idek.

So River gets shafted too. The Doctor's hubris has damaged how many people (particularly young women)'s lives by now? Thank fuck adult!River calls him out on it. And I'd like to note that I'm not even taking a social justicey perspective here.

Basically, it's all really painful and depressing if you take it apart.

As consolation, I would like a shitload of fun stories about queer Victorian crimefighting Silurian and her human partner! WHO ATE JACK THE RIPPER. AND FIGHT WITH SWORDS. Though there is a bit of class wtfery in there.

ETA: The Cranberries - Ode to My Family

Understand the things I say
Don't turn away from me
'Cause I've spent half my life out there
You wouldn't disagree
Do you see me?
Do you see? Do you like me?
Do you like me standing there?
Do you notice? Do you know?
Do you see me? Do you see me?
Does anyone care?

Unhappiness
Where's when I was young
And we didn't give a damn
'Cause we were raised
To see life as fun and take it if we can
My mother, my mother
Did she hold me
Did she hold me, when I was out there
My father, my father
He liked me
Oh, he liked me, does anyone care?

Understand what I've become
It wasn't my design
And people everywhere think something better than I am.
But I miss you, I miss
'Cause I liked it
'Cause I liked it, when I was out there
Do you know this? Do you know
You did not find me, you did not find--
Does anyone care?

Unhappiness
Where's when I was young
And we didn't give a damn
'Cause we were raised
To see life as fun and take it if we can
My mother, my mother
Did she hold me
Did she hold me, when I was out there
My father, my father
He liked me
Oh, he liked me, does anyone care?
