As noted on Twitter, I managed to make a US Thanksgiving dinner with only one mishap, which was not related to the taste of the food or major injury at all, thank fuck. Unfortunately, it WAS related to setting myself on fire...okay, setting on fire the oven glove I was using to hold the gravy pan. No Rhis were burned in the making of this dinner. My family has always had electric stoves, okay?

The meal was lovely. It's pretty hard to fuck up the pre-basted turkey breast, but I successfully pulled off pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes and green bean casserole.

There is snow in Glasgow! Enough snow to stick to the ground and the road, likely wreaking havoc on traffic.

I may need to make a locked post to muse about my Festivids ideas--recip is not on my circle/friends list and I don't believe ze's closely connected to anyone. I do a lot better when I talk these things out, and seeing as the entire month of November has been blown with me being sick and pushing out visa stuff* and wedding thank yous, I need to get on it.

Without giving anything away: does anyone know of any songs about fathers that aren't good or bad, just conflicted? Clapton's 'My Father's Eyes' is just a little too slow.

At least I have a filmmaker/vidding icon on Dreamwidth now. Yay, Abed! He's far closer to my own sensibilities than Mark Cohen.

* Probably due for that locked post on the [adjective redacted] state of UK immigration under the current administration.

From what I'm reading, you can use most pressure cookers on electric stoves as long as they're not induction. You just have to be careful and use two burners--one on low and one on high, switching as needed--because they're hard to cool down. I've never used one, despite being a foodie (they have come back en vogue)...I am slightly terrified it would explode, knowing my luck.

I've explored Glasgow some--I know the city centre and the south side a lot better than I did before. However, I've only been back once to the west end, which is lovely and indie and twee, because you really need some cash to do it properly, and I (as they say here) am skint until my visa stuff is sorted and I can find work.

Oh no, I've used pressure cookers on stoves -- just not the the stove you just showed me. Was trying to figure that out.

Ohh the west end. I'd love to go there: it sounds like my kind of place. I only barely know the city centre.

Well, it sounds awkward, but I'd be happy to show you around the West End, though some of it's changed since it was my haunt. It's overall just become more of itself, though, from what I hear from friends!

Sure, I'd like that, once the whole 'holiday season' has done its thing, because right now it'll just be chaos.

As for Edinbra, I've actually only been there twice, so recs are great. I've seen the Parliament and the Royal Mile and some bits and pieces around the area where ladyvivien used to live (near the uni? I am not sure).
