Righto, after waffling back and forth on it for months, and weighing various opinions...no Yuletide for me.

In the end, while I'd like to do it (despite a few concerns), my issues are three-fold and strictly personal:
- In the past, my choices for YT have been kidlit or lit-based fic, and I like it that way.* I like to write it and I like to receive it. But while I know my rare sources, they can be a massive pain to track down for a refresher, especially seeing as I am no longer North America-based and not connected to a library system like Milwaukee County's (which is, frankly, really good).
- I'm already doing two year-end exchanges (festivids and where_no_woman's New Year one), and I've lost two weeks to feeling like toasted crap from the flu.
- My name for YTs past is one I'd rather not use for fic writing anymore.

So! Not saying don't do it. Do do it! Just that I think I can't do it myself and produce good work. I think some of the suggestions for rarefic/rare pairings exchanges at a different time are good, and I hope to see something come to fruition.

* Slightly stunned to see The Lone Gunmen on the list this year, I remember when we were HUGE. I should write LGM fic again someday, KICKING IT OLD SCHOOL.

Yeah, the source availability thing is possibly an issue for me for one fandom I would consider offering (the rarest one by far of the ones I'd offer, I think).

I'm still debating whether or not I want to do it. :/ Even aside from wankiness, there's so little time! o_O & I am signed up for one other fic exchange.

[INSERT COMPLAINT ABOUT UK LIBRARY SYSTEMS HERE] Time is the big thing--the three years I did YT, it was the only thing I was doing at the the time, and I could put more effort into it. Not to mention that I want my Where No Woman fic to be BRILL because there are some seriously good writers there and I don't want my recip to feel cheated.

However, if say, bossymarmalade or someone gets something going later in the year...I could just write litfic at other times but there are so many fandoms that having a prompt is really helpful.

It's been a couple of years since I've done it, and last year I just did NOT have the time between the end of term for grad school and international travel, so I was looking forward to considering it this year. But then I sort of got ahead of myself, and the controversy did raise some good points.

Not to mention a lack of spoons on my part.

Well, if you ever get able to participate again, you can have your name changed even on the past fics. I've been using just Joanne as my author name for the last few years, and I asked the mods to change it one year just because I liked the idea of all my fics (written and received) being under the one name.

I totally understand your other reasons for not participating, but the third is solvable for the future.
